field dance
The start of an ongoing collaborative project with First Artist David Donnelly of the Royal Ballet, ‘field dance’ takes the form of movement studies informed by Robert Wilson’s masterwork ‘Einstein on the Beach.’ Nappa leather is lasercut in a technique akin to skin grafting, wool crepe is hand embroidered with an abstracted tongue designed by Nancy Riegelman, and merino wool armbands are knitted to resemble muscle fibres.
Katherine Helen Fisher says of performing Lucinda Childs’ choreography for the opera: “It’s challenging. It’s five and a half hours long. There are lots of clocks moving at differing rates, there’s a spaceship, a pipe, a glowing white cube.”
